The best safari wardrobe is quiet, comfortable and adaptable. Tanzania may give you a cold dawn, a warm afternoon and an elegant camp dinner in the same day.
Most safari camps offer laundry service, so there is little need to pack a fresh outfit for every day. Soft-sided luggage is preferred for bush flights, where weight and space are limited.
The clothing that earns its place
- Lightweight shirts in neutral earth tones, with long sleeves for sun and insects.
- Comfortable trousers or safari-weight chinos, plus one pair of shorts.
- A warm fleece or light insulated jacket for early game drives.
- A packable rain layer during green-season travel.
- Comfortable closed shoes and sandals for camp.
- A wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses and a simple evening layer.
Camera, binoculars and power
A phone can capture wonderful wide scenes, while a camera with a 100–400mm lens gives more reach for wildlife. Bring spare batteries, memory cards and a dust-safe bag. We provide binoculars in our private vehicles, though many guests enjoy having their own pair.
Scheduled light aircraft commonly use strict luggage limits and require soft bags. We confirm the exact allowance for every flight in your final travel documents.
Health and personal comfort
Pack prescription medication in your hand luggage, along with sunscreen, lip balm, insect repellent and any preferred personal products. Your vehicle carries drinking water and a field kit, while our team remains available throughout the journey.
What to leave at home
- Hard-shell suitcases that are difficult to load into small aircraft.
- Bright white clothing and camouflage prints.
- Heavy formal wear—camp evenings are refined but relaxed.
- Too many shoes, gadgets or duplicate camera equipment.
- Single-use plastic carrier bags, which are restricted in Tanzania.
Before departure, every Wildlife Wonders guest receives a journey-specific packing list shaped around season, altitude, activities and baggage allowances.
